randomling: A wombat. (all your base)
First drafts for [livejournal.com profile] bittybang are due on Friday. Which is awesome; I've had my draft for a couple of weeks now, but still don't have a summary, and it's hard to invent one. At some point in the next couple of days I shall have to!

I've been busy with life-stuff, so writing on The Plan has been stalled for a while. Would like to get at least a few more words on it before I have to edit [livejournal.com profile] bittybang and start on SeSa.

I'm also obsessing about Supernatural a lot. I'm up to 3x14 and really enjoying the show so far. I have a little bunch to watch before I'm done! [livejournal.com profile] etsu_88 kindly uploaded up to 4x06 for me, so I shall soon be completely up to date.

I haven't done any fic-reading for the longest time - like, months - mostly because my illness has been making it hard to concentrate. And now I'm starting to feel better and I'm dying to have something good to get my teeth into. I'm not really very well-read in popslash, and would love to have something cool and new-to-me to read. Would love something long, like, 10k+ long. Anyone have anything specific to recommend?

(I am not choosy on pairings, kinks or plotlines, particularly - but I AM choosy about quality. Which is silly in fanfic, I know, but there you have it.)

And finally. Because tomorrow's the final day for sign-ups, I'll provide another pimp. If you haven't signed up for MtYG yet, WHY NOT?!

This concludes my Stuff for today.

The Plan.

Word count stuff )

It's nice that, for a couple of weeks at least, I have time and space to work on my own projects - something that's not for a challenge or a request or anything except my own amusement. I should do this more often!
randomling: A wombat. (juc cute)
Not that I am caring about word count goals for "The Plan" any more - it's not for a challenge, so I am writing at my leisure, and intending to edit even more so - but I have picked up the threads of the novel and am plugging on with it.

Behind the cut for word count stuff )

I am also trying to figure out which challenges I can take part in next year. I don't want to overload myself, so my desire, which is "all of them!", is going to have to be moderated by common sense. Especially since I am running a challenge next year.

So I'm saying right now, please don't be offended if I don't take part in your challenge next year! I love challenges, but probably can't do everything, at least not if I want to have a week or two next year to devote to my own projects...

  • I'm so impatient for SeSa sign-ups. I'm taking part in a test for it this weekend (about which I'm very excited!), and just the thought of it is getting me all geared-up for the real thing. Roll on Christmas!

  • I'm doing some serious thinking about my writing process and what works and doesn't work for me. So far I have discovered that the half-hour goals are fabulous for producing words, but not so much for producing words I like. (Whether that's an indication that I need to do more pre-planning, write slower, or be prepared to do more editing work, I'm not entirely sure.) I know that an exhaustive scene-by-scene plan doesn't work for me, as it tends to kill my desire to write the story, which is a fragile and precious thing. More thoughts on this as I continue.

  • I feel a bit like something is missing from my [livejournal.com profile] bittybang story, but I've resolved not to look at it again - beyond writing the required summary for the challenge - until the start of November. It's cool to have the time and leisure both to edit it, and to give myself some space and perspective on it before I start the editing process. (Weird, though - this'll be the first story I've ever tried that with. I hope I don't kill it like that.) Not sure if this is the right thing, but all the writing advice I've ever read says it's easier to edit something it if you put it away for a while. Time to find out if that's true for me.

  • I need to start thinking about when and how to run my Badfic Challenge next year. The only challenge I've ever done was the June Bug (which was pretty easy and I still sucked at it!) so I'm not sure how to go about it, really. Any tips, seasoned fans?

  • I'm worried about how the hell I'm going to finish "The Plan". What I've written so far is really different from what I wanted to write and while I've never written something this long, I discovered that getting down words-any-words isn't all that hard. I've never edited something this long, either, though, and the sheer size of the job ahead of me is really intimidating. Plus, I've only written half of the story, so I need to put the editing part of it out of my mind for now.

  • I think that's all for now!

Running on the vague assumption that this is the halfway mark that I've reached (and a whole day early, wahoo).

Now to get started on Part Two?

I'm quite close, though. Maybe two or three more scenes.

Edit: Also, I broke Google Docs. There's now officially too much of this story to keep in one document, so I've had to start a new one. Google Docs will take about 65k in one document, apparently!

Okay, so my major concern with this story is that it's way too schmoopy and sappy, and there's not enough tension in it to keep anyone reading. I'm thinking that it may have to be ruthlessly cut once I'm done, that there are certain things that I haven't really dramatized that should be dramatized, and that it may bear not much resemblence at all to the first draft once I am done writing it.

I'm also worried that I'm simply not going to have time to edit it by the final deadline. Not and get it into the shape that I really want it to be in when I post it. I think that's a consideration, but I don't want to stop writing, and the one thing I can't do (I think?) is dash off 20,000 words of something fun in the last two weeks of November if I don't think this is going to work - because if I'm lucky there's going to be someone preparing fanart for the epic.

Okay, still short of "End of Part One", but there's a light at the end of the tunnel. My goal: to write the rest tomorrow, and finish Part One plenty short of the end of the month.

So far today, I have written fifty-seven words.

I have no idea what I'm doing with this damn story right now.

Sigh. The productivity I've had has been awesome, but I do sort of wish I'd chosen something that could be told in... something that's less than six times the required 20,000 words for [livejournal.com profile] bittybang?

There's still time to change my mind, I guess. Except I've already written so much, I don't want to just abandon the thing I've started.

Eh. Crisis of confidence in my ability to do this thing.

End of Part One should come this weekend. I hope.

Of course, we are really at "not even 50%", but I'm going to revise the Projected Word Count when I hit the end of Part One.

Chapter Ten's end is in sight! Two more scenes.

NaNoWriMo challenges you to write 50,000 words in 30 days.

I just did it in 17.

Holy fuck, people. I'm on fire.
randomling: A wombat. (juc cute)
There is a lot of writing still to be done on this story. And right now, I am stuck! Cut for minor spoilers for The Plan. I know at least one person is avoiding them. Whee! )

I keep having little sticking points, thinking about them for a while, and then moving on again. But they are really frustrating when they come all the same.

I need someone to hold my hand! Or let me ramble, or something.

Hot off the presses!

Also, Chapter Nine? Is done.
