randomling: A very young Justin Timberlake with an expression of great distress. (oh noes)
Well. OLD new fic. This was written alongside Park Guy (sooooo, five plus years ago), and serves as a prequel and companion piece. I just found it in my email, polished it up and gave it a title (with the aid of the wonderful folks at #yuletide), and bingo. New fic!

Specifically for [livejournal.com profile] phaballa, who cheerled it hard back in the day.

I just came across the video for Show Me The Meaning of Being Lonely and it may have slightly reactivated my popslash squee.

My brain really likes inventing crossovers for some reason.

I decided I would throw out some of the ideas that are in my brain:

The three "old" ones are Farscape/popslash, Doctor Who/popslash and Inception/Warehouse 13.

Also:

Farscape/Eureka.
Farscape/Doctor Who.
Doctor Who/Once Upon A Time.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer/How I Met Your Mother.
Firefly/BSG.
How I Met Your Mother/The Big Bang Theory.

I am (probably!) not going to write any of these, but they are sort of fun to make up scenes for in my head.

I don't know why I am making this post, but there you are - they are kind of fun to think about! I want to keep spoilers out of the main post, mostly 'cause I am currently introducing [personal profile] tims to Farscape, but I'm happy to expand on the ideas themselves in the comments! So if you want to ask, ask. [grin]

The end!

Hurray for not being dead.

Here's a few things that are going on in my world.

1. I'm horribly behind on my Secret Santa. We'll see how things are going tomorrow - hoping not to have to ask for an extension, but we'll see. (I am not organised.)

2. The volunteering thing is going well. I'm starting to get into my stride there, which is a relief, and I'm starting to feel that I'm actually achieving stuff. It's odd, but I sort of prefer being busy and stressed to being bored. As long as I'm not too stressed, I guess?

3. I joined a support group to help with the getting back into work/sorting out my life thing. So far, it's being helpful. I'm working on forward planning and ritual, and I keep sharing Havi techniques and concepts in group. Seems to be handy!

4. I spent a lot of today rearranging my room. The more I process my belongings, the more control I feel I have over my space. Thank God for my dad and his unswerving support in this. Things feel better-managed now, but it is of course always a work in progress. I'm starting to come to terms with the idea that it'll never be perfect and that's okay, because I'll always be making baby steps towards better.

5. I threw a party for my parents tonight. It was small and relaxed, but lots of fun - we ate too much food and had fun conversation and played silly games and did quizzes. It was good!

6. Also, we beat the Guardian's Christmas Prize Crossword in two days. Woo! We'll even send it off, and maybe we'll win the prize. (Yeah, right. But we can try.)

7. In beating-the-depression news, I can finally listen to music again without getting twitchy and annoyed. Snake River Conspiracy. Backstreet Boys. Muse. U2. Hard-FI. Marilyn Manson. Radiohead. The Beatles. Nsync. Cobra Starship. I HAVE MISSED YOU GUYS. Hurray!

8. I'm writing crazy fic in my head, which at some point should see the light of day (or at least the light of a computer screen) - but it's the wrong fandom for SeSa. Sigh!

9. I need to feed my TV addictions this week, if only so I can get enough knitting time in to finish my mum's scarf (something else I'm stupidly behind on). Maybe I can knit during quiet moments at work.

10. I think that's it for now. Goodnight!

I finished my employability course. Now for some job-hunting.

Sign-ups for MtYG opened today and I am all signed up! Need to write a Dear Santa letter at some point. But beyond that, it's just sitting around waiting for my assignment to show up. (If you are, were or have considered being a popslasher at any point, you should totally consider signing up. Just saying!)

Haven't caught up with this week's SPN yet.

I am definitely Getting Better. Social life, daily showering, attending an employability course, improving the situation in my room. It's all good stuff! And I start therapy tomorrow, which should be interesting at the very least. More social life and more connection in general would be awesome, though. Working on that part.

Made bread yesterday. It was pretty tasty, but the texture was a bit dense. According to my book, that means it needs more kneading. So we'll see about trying again next week.

Also missed my nap yesterday which meant I was extraordinarily cranky all evening and had a very early night. Note to self: naps are good.

Oh, and absolutely everything has changed on World of Warcraft. Quite stressful - I have to learn to play Warrior all over again! (And all my other toons, but I'm definitely not thinking about that yet. New Warrior is enough of a learning curve all by itself, thanks.) Looks like the new expansion's going to be quite fun, though.

I'm still obsessed with Hit Record and its shiny awesomeness, but I'm also completely stuck on what to do over there. (I haven't even got my head around the UI yet!) But I did record my voice for a collaboration encouraging people to vote in the US mid-term elections. I approve of efforts to get people out to the polling booth, even in countries where I don't live!

I think that's all the updates for today! I think I'm going to try to make a conscious effort to show up more here. Hello!

Okay, dudes, I just signed up for my first popslash challenge since SeSa. After sort-of-half promising myself that I was going to focus on original fic. Oops.

I have about a month to write. Now I just need a story idea.

Okay. So the one complaint so far on [community profile] dwstones? Is that people aren't posting enough. So maybe I should post something about me, myself and I. How I got to Dreamwidth, and a thing or two that's important to me.

I got here via fandom. And I should point out that I'm a relative newbie to fandom with only about 18 months under my belt. I'm sure that you will hear a thing or two about my favourite fandom, which is popslash, in many subsequent posts. (For a quickie definition, though: popslash is slash about real people in the pop world, usually *Nsync, The Backstreet Boys and associated people. And slash is same-sex romantic/erotic fan fiction.)

The thing that I really want to do with my life is write. Actual words, my own non-fanfic words - and preferably make some kind of money at it. That would be awesome. I have ideas, but they feel "too big to write" and I'm rather intimidated about actually doing it. So I'm working on that particular thing.

I'm currently recovering from a major bout of depression and learning to cope with diabetes still, about nine months after I was diagnosed. Partly as a result of that, I'm currently even more obsessed than usual with self-help and self-development stuff, and trying to learn to navigate the Big Issues that get me stuck and get me upset. I'm also quite obsessed with a "destuckification expert" called Havi Brooks, who has a web site at The Fluent Self. So you may hear a thing or two about that as time goes on.

I'm spread rather wide over the internet at the moment. I have three Livejournals (currently all paid - ahem), one for personal, one for fannish, and one for writing stuff, a Twitter account which I'm just getting to grips with, a Facebook account I barely ever use, and a new WordPress blog (which at some point deserves a link).

I have a terrible habit of over-extending myself and as a result I'm always trying to rationalize and figure out what I should be committed to and what I should ditch. This seems to be a constantly ongoing process and there is never a clean slate, which I find somewhat distressing, but that's life for you.

I was quite keen on the clean slate thing here, and then I stupidly imported my LJ. Not sure why, follow the crowd I guess...

There is no real point to this entry, except to say one more hello, and give some info about myself! :)

Okay, so the R&B stuff mostly doesn't do a damn thing for me. I know I like N'Sync and it's a damn strange thing that I don't like Justin's solo stuff in general, but - honestly - I don't. I'm sorry. I love Cry Me A River, but that's about it.

Except!

Why did nobody tell me about (Another Song) All Over Again? Which. OMG. Justin singing something that sounds a lot like proper classic blues and running all over the scale and ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥!

God, this is going on the playlist that's mostly reserved for Ella and Louis (ETA - and Eva, duh). I love Justin's voice. I love songs that are designed to show it off, which are fucking few and far between. And I love that bluesy sound. Love love LOVE. I'm a fan of Gone, which has stunningly gorgeous instrumentation and Justin's beautiful voice, and while it's really a Justin song which criminally uses the other N'Sync boys as backup singers, it's still a wonderful song.

Wow.

One of those things where like I said - mostly his solo music doesn't do much for me at all, but every now and then he hits my buttons with a mallet and I become a flailing squeeing fangirl. JUJU OMG YAY.
