Snowflake Challenge #3: Wishlist

Create a wish list of fandom things (podfic, graphics, playlists, canon recs translations, research help, vids, sky's the limit!) that you'd like to receive. Snowflake Challenge #3

Wishes? Wishes. Well, this year I'm looking for new fandom connections, so:

1. Recommendations for fandom (general fandom, or fandom-specific) DW comms or discords I could join where I might have fun and meet cool people. My fandoms are here, and reasonably current.

2. Individual people to connect with would be delightful! If you know someone - or are someone - who enjoys one or more of my fandoms and might like to hang out with someone new, drop me a comment or DM.

3. Recommendations for (short) fic to read! I really struggle with the attention span to read giant epics and even novel-length fic is hard work most of the time. But if you have great novella-length fic to recommend I'd love that. I prefer queer fic, and I would prefer to stay away from omegaverse and pregnancy fic (no matter the gender of the pregnant person).

4. I have an AO3 with various fics and engagement would be pleasing!

I think that's all I can think of for now.

A great place to find active fandom communities is fandomcalendar and there's also dw_community_promo. And some great comms for meeting people with similar interests and fandoms are addme and addme_fandom. I've discovered a lot of great DW comms through those places! :)

Again, I got nothin' when it comes to new fandoms, since I am primarily Final Fantasy... though I did read a Kingdom Hearts fic today, and have enjoyed rionaleonhart's recent posts about showing KH to a roommate...

Anyway, my real reason for commenting is that you may or may not have seen my list of recommended DW communities before. Not all of these are active currently, but I find them interesting comms! My favorite one is get_knitted which posts daily check-ins for crafters of all flavors. Lots of fun, chatty people there (and several are Doctor Who/Torchwood fans!)

Fandom communities

Fandom Empire is a wonderful place to be. You write as much or as little as you please. It’s just so much fun. Check them out. They run three different challenges a year. They keep you hopping. It’s still tons of fun. Here is the link.

allbingo hosts a fest every month on different themes. January is Public Domain Day Bingo, February will be Valentines. You can also volunteer to run a fest for any of your own fandoms. Visit the Allbingo Friending Meme.

Keep an eye on dw_community_promo for new comms. It's a lot more active than it used to be, and many of these are fannish additions.

This Tumblr post (and well, the blog), is def a good one to get your GO fix. There's a GDoc of resources and Discord Servers that might be up your alley. I'm in quite a few of them (mostly as a lurker), but there are tons of fic recs and fun people in each server. Also, that's the best way to keep tabs on current GO fests!

It's totally fine! :) I've been trying to see if I'll be able to keep up with more updates on DW this year since a lot of what I do is on Tumblr these days. Usually after things like Snowflake Challenge, friend memes or something similar, that's when I'll be doing some friend adding.

Hello fellow DWJ, Murderbot and KJ Charles fan!

I haven't read Homeward Bounders or Deep Secret yet, but Chrestomanci is a favourite. I also love Derkholm, especially Year of the Griffin. And I did a read-along of Fire and Hemlock with a group of friends last fall (my first time reading it) and loved it - what a rich, complex, atmospheric book!

ETA: oh also, I wanted to mention there is kjc_fans here on DW, though it is slow traffic.

Highly recommend Homeward Bounders, especially. Deep Secret is also fantastic. I got Fire and Hemlock when I was 10 and I think I read it at least once a year until I was at least 18. (My copy is falling apart!) It’s such a wonderful weaving together of fairytale and mundane elements, and Polly is so, so great.

I have only read one of the Derkholm books, and it was so long ago I remember very little detail - maybe I should get hold of the rest!
