My fandoms

What do I mean by "my fandoms"?
This isn't just a list of "stuff I love", though obviously there's major overlap there. But neither is it a list of stuff for which I have been actively involved in fandom already, or have already written fiction for. I suppose what this boils down to is a list of fandoms I'm prepared to write in, which meet the following three criteria:
a) I love the canon.
b) I have the enthusiasm to want to write fic (this isn't necessarily the same thing as just loving the thing; I love Donnie Darko, for example, but wouldn't want to write fic in that universe).
c) I'm familiar enough with the canon to feel somewhat confident writing fic.
This is probably more of an exact definition than most fandom-savvy readers would ever need, but um... I like writing definitions? I don't know. It's kind of useful to me to have some criteria by which I decide what goes on this list.
Also, I haven't bothered to italicise the names of TV shows/movies/books, because I am lazy and ALL THE HTML TAGS.
Deprecated/no longer interested/no longer watch/read fandoms are struck out. (Edit, 2024: there are a LOT of struck out fandoms now, so they're getting their own fandoms

Date: 2013-04-22 11:34 pm (UTC)For me, part of being in fandom versus really liking something is also how much you want to discuss it, and how in depth. Not that if you don't, you're not still in the fandom, but to me obsessiveness plays a huge part. Then again, I got into fandom through discussion, rather than fanfic. (Even though I wrote fanfic long before I knew about fandom. I hope that makes sense.)

Date: 2013-04-24 07:06 pm (UTC)I agree with you about discussion, too - I think a lot more meta than I actually write, but I do a lot of rambly conversations about fandom stuff, and that's definitely a flag for "I'm fannish about it", too. How much do I want to talk about it all day and all night?

Date: 2024-01-01 11:39 pm (UTC)We have a lot of overlap in the things we like! I've been one-trick pony for years now (pretty limited to Final Fantasy stuff) but a lot of what you list are past likes of mine, and it would be good to revisit canon, at the very least.
My older sis got me Avatar: The Last Airbender on Blu-ray for Christmas. I've never seen the end of it, so I'm looking forward to watching it!

Date: 2024-01-02 02:08 pm (UTC)There's at least two Dirk Gently series that I know of! One is (I think) a BBC effort from the early 2010s starring Stephen Mangan as Dirk. The one I know and love is from 2017, it's on Netflix, it stars Samuel Barnett and Elijah Wood and Brad Dourif's daughter (she's excellent), it has really queer vibes, and I just... love it, from multiple angles.
If you watch it and want someone to scream at/squee with I'm right here, I rewatch regularly because it's a comfort show at this point. Ditto FF stuff, or AtLA, honestly - I hope you really enjoy the ending! Another comfort-and-joy show for me.
