The participants are up for Remix and I'm not on there.
I'm kind of panicking that I got booted for breaking the rules or something. Maybe someone is pinch hitting like mad because my Remix totally failed to be a remix?
But I'm pretty sure that my Remix was not in fact that radical.
More likely it was just an oversight and I'm being silly. But. PARANOIA!
ETA: Crisis over, I have not been kicked. Woo.

Actually, that means they'll go live shortly after I get home from work, which is quite cool.
no subject
Date: 2008-07-14 05:34 pm (UTC)And I'm thinking "oh, oh, please go live before I leave work so I can download 'em and read at home tonight!" (Even though I should write tonight.)

Date: 2008-07-14 05:53 pm (UTC)Thank you! Now I won't feel like I'm wimping out if I do icons instead.
It's very, very cracky. And then somehow I started taking it seriously and it's currently at 6,000 words and I wouldn't be surprised if it ended up close to 9,000 or more.

Date: 2008-07-15 06:42 pm (UTC)You should totally remix next year. You would love it! It's very fun, but a bit scary.

Date: 2008-07-15 06:50 pm (UTC)If they run it, I will do it 'cause I finally have enough fics! Yay! But I'm afraid I'll get somebody whose fics I don't understand. Like one of the authors, I can tell she writes well, but I feel stupid reading her fics because I don't quite get what's going on in them. Too subtle or something for me.
no subject
Date: 2008-07-15 06:56 pm (UTC)And, hmm. IMO, really good writing doesn't make you feel stupid, because it manages to explain everything you need to know without, like, explaining it? (Wow. I'm articulate.)

Date: 2008-07-15 07:01 pm (UTC)(Oh, yay! She likes my JoeC!)
no subject
Date: 2008-07-15 07:05 pm (UTC)Which author is it, out of curiosity? (It's not me, is it? I do write some fucking stupidly obscure stuff at times, but that's me trying to be "experimental".)
And man. I love your JoeC. And it's weird how neither het, nor poly!fic, nor real-life relationships do it for me very much in normal life, but your JC/Joey/Kelly is gorgeous and romantic and loving and hot as burning scorching hell?
Didn't you once give me a compliment about me convincing you to read stuff you don't think you'll like? Well. Yes, consider that to go both ways. :D
no subject
Date: 2008-07-15 07:23 pm (UTC)(And I'm experimental, too, sometimes with varying results.)
I don't even think it's all of her fics, but over lunch break I read two fics of Maggie's that I've never read before (Down He Came & Raw) and I felt like I didn't quite get either of them. And some of it is that they're not happy fics and there are some more complicated emotions in there and I'm way biased towards happy fics and it made me wonder what I would do if I had to chose from a set that was all unhappy and complicated.
And then I reread Just a Figment and thought, the writing is really beautiful, but again, I don't get the motivations. And maybe that's because I kept chosing Chris/Justin fics. And that's not always easy?
Didn't you once give me a compliment about me convincing you to read stuff you don't think you'll like?
I did indeed. :) Cool!
Edited to add: Oh, I dare you to try to read this in the skinny lil comment form! Ha!

And hmm, that's interesting. I really love Maggie's fic, but then I'm a sucker for the downbeat ending and also for the angsty Timbertrick she does so well. I would be intimidated trying to remix her, though! Eek!
Perhaps we should take this to another thread somewhere more readable? :D

See? I totally don't think it's because she's not a good author. It could be that I haven't read lots of Timbertrick. It's a pairing that makes me a little uncomfortable, so I've sorted through and avoided a lot and the unhappy Timbertrick really makes me uncomfortable, even though I think it's more realistic in almost all cases?
Out of the three I just read, I like Raw best. Because I did really get it, once we got to punchline time. But, oh, ouch. I'm such a sucker for happy endings. I'd have to fight the impulse to remix it happy, since I think remixing it to a happy ending oversteps the bounds of remixing.
Re: new thread, old comment
Date: 2008-07-15 09:38 pm (UTC)Remixing is interesting because the rule is "keep the basic plot", but that's very fluid. So you can change the ending, I think, if it seems like something you want to do. (I didn't change the ending of mine, though... ahaha I can't say which one I did yet!)
Are you still here? Did you see that we are live? :D

Date: 2008-07-16 12:03 pm (UTC)I am off sick from work (again - damn antibiotics make me feel like crap) and trying to write porn. It's my Jammin' July day and I want to finish the sequel to the blood porn.

Feel better soon! :)
Re: new thread, old comment
Date: 2008-07-16 12:13 pm (UTC)I'll be honest, I've never done the remix thing before and I wasn't totally sure how I would react to someone going in and playing with one of my stories? But what they did was just so clever and so funny - and did something I hadn't managed, which was explain what the heck is going on - and I was just so unbelievably thrilled with it.
Also, the writing in the remix is about forty-eight times better than the writing in the original (I've SO done better) so I feel like my little story has been poked and prodded and shaken and improved. It's rather wonderful. :D
Re: new thread, old comment
Date: 2008-07-16 12:25 pm (UTC)I did remember that it was a request fic and that maybe you weren't that attached to the premise. (I want to watch Ghostbusters now...)
Re: new thread, old comment
Date: 2008-07-16 12:29 pm (UTC)Although actually, I kind of wish I had a copy of the movie, but with Chris sparklycast as Peter, Joey as Ray and Justin as Egon. Which is, sadly, a movie that only exists in fantasy form in my head.
JC is clearly Sigourney Weaver and Lance is Rick Moranis.
OMG. :D

And yes it totally should. I want geekified Justin as Egon! Please?
Re: new thread, old comment
Date: 2008-07-16 01:16 pm (UTC)Oh, and Justin with curls as all geeky and Egon-ish. Mmmmmm. There's something stupidly hot about that.
