I'm interested too. But not as much as I was at the end of S1. And frankly, I thought S3 sucked a LOT. It sucked out loud and for serious. But the things that disappoint me about SPN basically amount to how it's not Buffy and will never be Buffy :/ I've gotten over my compulsion to compare everything on the show to how Joss Whedon handled it with Buffy, because otherwise I would have no joy!
I think you're lucky that you missed all the thematic-related wank, though :P That probably helps you keep your joy.
I didn't love S3 as much as S1 and S2 - though I liked S2 a lot better than S1. And as much as love Buffy, SPN doesn't really seem to be doing any of the same sorts of things? It seems much more like The X-Files to me, in a way, but it makes me happy because it's so much more directed and focused and knows at least some stuff about what it's up to, which The X-Files never did (and it was painful).
So, yes.
And I don't think I'm getting too near the fandom to be honest? The stuff that made me crazy trying to be in Who fandom will probably make me just as crazy trying to be in SPN.
Oh god, if you can avoid it, do not go near the SPN fandom. I love some of those ladies a lot, but for every awesome person, there are literally 50 crazies. They just all take it Very Seriously. And to me, SPN is not a show I enjoy if I have to take it Very Seriously. Like, talking about themes with people I know can handle a civilized debate--yes. But it's such a huge and chock-full-o-crazy fandom that anything can get blown out of proportion and become ridiculous. Even the RPF side of things was like that, and I was heavily invested in J2 for a couple years there :P
