This is another thing I have thought of to do - an update about my piano progress. I'm using a book to teach myself (or, in these early stages, re-teach myself) and I'm going to go at what seems like a slow pace at this early stage, because the early lessons are full of things I already know from earlier attempts to become good at the piano and general-interest learning about music.

But the truth appears to be that I need to practise even the very early stuff. So I'm going to do one lesson a week, until I actually honestly need longer on lessons (this is likely to happen fairly soon but not immediately).

For those following along at home, I'm using Progressive Piano for Adults by Peter Gelling.

So this week I'm tackling Lesson One.

Concepts
Notes: Middle C, D, E, F, G
The quarter note, half note and whole note (known to me as crotchet, minim and breve)

Review Questions
I'll use these at the end of the week to assess whether or not I'm ready to move on next week.

Can I play all the pieces in the lesson fluently at a reasonable pace? (Counting in my head is okay.)
Do I understand and am I comfortable with all the concepts in the lesson? (Could I, for example, play the correct notes, chords and scales when asked to?)

Comments
Lesson One is very short, and this week is likely to be quite boring (playing five notes with only the right hand). I am pretty sure I could already play all of these notes when asked to thanks to existing musical knowledge. I still think it's going to be quite useful to do Lesson One this week, in the hopes that I'll get a good foundation for just practising stuff without it being too demanding.

Wish me luck? And I'll hopefully be back with more piano stuff next week.

Part of me is wondering now if they're still taught by that name over here. Also, the words "tea, coffee, coffee, tea" have just come to mind.
