randomling: Buffy and Willow cast a spell. (Buffy the Vampire Slayer.) (buffy and willow)

Note for readers: I am just rambling here, not looking for advice just yet.

So I looked at [personal profile] jjhunter's friending meme a couple of weeks ago and got totally intimidated because she asked about your journal's identity. And my journal doesn't really have one of those. Some months I don't post at all, and other months I post lots. I've posted about astrology, political stuff I care about, fandom stuff, my own personal life, health, work, you name it. There isn't a catch-all. I rarely linkspam. I barely write fic any more, never mind post any. Sometimes I write about programming, though for nym-related reasons I'm thinking about peeling that stuff off to another journal.

The thing is that aside from wanting to put programming stuff on another journal, I don't really want to limit the content. (I'd like to find ways to encourage myself to post more, and perhaps giving this journal a stronger identity, or set of identities, would help with that.)

I could post about mystical stuff. Astrology, tarot. It's a long time since I've done either of those things, but I was reminded recently (by [personal profile] twistedchick's Tarot project, actually) that astrology, especially, is something I've done so much that the symbolism is bone-deep in me now. I'd love to understand Tarot better. I don't know why, but mystic symbolism is in my blood.

Writing is another thing that's in my blood - in a more literal way, this time, since both my parents were in the publishing industry. I think I've long since given up the idea of being a Real Novelist, but I'd love to write more fic, and maybe one day I really will manage to get moving on something of my very own. And if I do manage to get writing, I'd love to do some writing about writing.

Fannish stuff is also close to my heart. I have a relatively huge chunk of fandoms, as I watch quite a lot of TV, and I quite like writing down my opinions and my thoughts. There's some Avatar: The Last Airbender meta I should write, and probably more on Angel, either as I go or once I've finished the show. Currently-airing shows that I'm trying to keep up with include Haven, Fringe and How I Met Your Mother. I could probably write reams of meta about all of those, too.

I could write somewhat about my knitting, and either share this on [community profile] knitting or on Ravelry. That wouldn't help much with the content here, though. I'm currently making a bright blue sweater from a pattern by Elizabeth Zimmerman, and it does seem to be going rather well. I'm also wondering about Christmas knits and what I might do with my knitting time once all that is finished with.

Tech stuff might also be interesting to post about - perhaps not so much the programming, which is going to live Elsewhere, but what technology I use and what for. Useful for me as a reference as I figure these things out, and also perhaps for others.

Then there's the personal stuff. This could go a bunch of ways. At the moment, I'm trying to figure out some ways to manage/improve my health, find some financial support while I'm too sick to work, and (as always) continue to fight my monsters/brainweasels/inner demons. Plus there's the more practical side of unfucking my habitat, working out how much I can actually do at current spoon levels, and getting stuff done. I could post some more about that.

I think that this journal is partly going to be personal (stuff I post for me, either for reference or just so I can see it writen down) and partly for my readers and friends. And it strikes me that I have little to no idea what you guys are actually interested in reading.

So perhaps that's the next stage.
