Cheering up the randomling

So this is a short version of what should probably be a long explanation.
I am feeling depressed, and this is more common than I would like.
One of the problems I have is thinking "I am fail", "I am horrid", etc, and not being able to get this out of my head. So I was complaining about this, as is often the case, on IRC, and ladyasul suggested that I make a post where people could say nice things about me. Like a personal love meme, I guess.
It seems a bit like a vanity post, but I am going to be bold and say: hey, if you feel like saying something nice about me, which I can come back and read when I feel like crap, then please do.
That is all!

Date: 2012-07-06 11:14 am (UTC)Your commitment and drive to learning, even when it's "scary", is 100% of the reason that I can now write basic code and have code as part of Dreamwidth. It would have taken me much, MUCH longer without your sterling example. <3
You pour so much of yourself into taking care of other people: your goose, your agreeing-to-self-care-trade with me.
You're funny and you're lovely and I am so glad to know you and get to call you friend. <3

Date: 2012-07-06 11:17 pm (UTC)I think Cognitive Behavioral Therapy might be of use to you. Basically, it requires you to challenge the negative thinking and break the negative thought spiral. It's hard work and it isn't a quick fix, but it does work. Basically - with 'I am fail' as an example, start asking yourself questions. Face the negative thought head on. "What is my empirical evidence for this?" And then question the evidence - for instance if your answer is 'I am fail because I don't earn enough money' then question why that is, is it due to outside forces, how realistic would it be for you to be earning more, would someone other than you in your situation be earning more (or are you in fact expecting yourself to be superhuman), and if it is true, what is the ultimate negative consequence, and how likely is that, what is the empirical evidence for that. Etc. Basically, question everything, accept nothing, and make yourself work through the negative thoughts.
