So this is a short version of what should probably be a long explanation.

I am feeling depressed, and this is more common than I would like.

One of the problems I have is thinking "I am fail", "I am horrid", etc, and not being able to get this out of my head. So I was complaining about this, as is often the case, on IRC, and [personal profile] ladyasul suggested that I make a post where people could say nice things about me. Like a personal love meme, I guess.

It seems a bit like a vanity post, but I am going to be bold and say: hey, if you feel like saying something nice about me, which I can come back and read when I feel like crap, then please do.

That is all!

You think about how you can fix things, you take steps to do so, and then you do 'em. And you do all this in spite of depression!brain trying to trip you up at every step of the way.

Your commitment and drive to learning, even when it's "scary", is 100% of the reason that I can now write basic code and have code as part of Dreamwidth. It would have taken me much, MUCH longer without your sterling example. <3

You pour so much of yourself into taking care of other people: your goose, your agreeing-to-self-care-trade with me.

You're funny and you're lovely and I am so glad to know you and get to call you friend. <3

You are most certainly not fail. In fact, you're awesomely awesome! Plus, nice and sweet and fun, and whatever it is you're having trouble with at the time you read this, I believe in your ability to do whatever is necessary to fix it!

Bonus: *\o/* :DDD ♥♥

As someone with an unwanted honorary master's degree in Understanding Horrid Fail People I can say with complete confidence that you are NOT horrid or fail or any synonym-concept thereof. So. Tell your brain that. Expert opinion.

You write good stories and you give good hugs. And, you have started doing DW code, which fills me with awe.

I do not have fail or horrid people on my reading list, ergo you are neither. I have spoken ;)

I think Cognitive Behavioral Therapy might be of use to you. Basically, it requires you to challenge the negative thinking and break the negative thought spiral. It's hard work and it isn't a quick fix, but it does work. Basically - with 'I am fail' as an example, start asking yourself questions. Face the negative thought head on. "What is my empirical evidence for this?" And then question the evidence - for instance if your answer is 'I am fail because I don't earn enough money' then question why that is, is it due to outside forces, how realistic would it be for you to be earning more, would someone other than you in your situation be earning more (or are you in fact expecting yourself to be superhuman), and if it is true, what is the ultimate negative consequence, and how likely is that, what is the empirical evidence for that. Etc. Basically, question everything, accept nothing, and make yourself work through the negative thoughts.

(((hugs)))

You are an excellent and very strong person. That strength isn't always apparent because you often wind up using it just to try to stay afloat or as close as possible to afloat, but you are definitely strong.
