Start of post news: This is a news bulletin.
Popslash news: about 1400 words on the "space pirates AU!" I'm writing for my Awesome August date. Feel it is going quite well but also not quite sure what's going to happen next.
Work news: someone at work has swine flu (they won't say who but I have a suspicion, not that it matters). PANIC! Or not. They went through all the prevention stuff with us and I read the symptoms on the NHS site. I was amused to find that I am on the MUST HAVE ANTI-VIRALS (only if I get it!) list because of the diabetes.
Writing news: I think I am going to ask myself to write 3 words of original fic a day. Not because I think 3 words is a viable goal so much as because I am not writing original words AT ALL right now, and because I think that getting started (even if it's only 3 words) is a good thing. Plus, I'm pretty sure that if I start, I'm liable to write more than 3 words. I had this idea from a site called Mildly Creative which has the subtitle "A Gentle Approach To Creativity and Personal Development". I love that sites like this exist.
Personal stuff news: I'm going to Edinburgh next month! I'm a bit worried about it now because of my Ben Goldacre-related freak-out (alone in a pub full of people was bad enough; alone in a pub full of people hundreds of miles from home? What am I doing?) but it does mean I can plan some coping strategies now so I don't end up having a meltdown in Scotland.
Health news: I've lost almost a stone in the last year, go me! Not quite sure how to relate to this (body issues + trying to work with fat acceptance + weight loss being good for diabetes = confusion) but it seems like a good thing and I would definitely like to get fitter and healthier. How much this is actually related to my weight, I don't know.
WoW news: I did stuff in WoW and it was good. I'm pretty sure that more details would send most of my flist into "I don't fucking care" mode. If you are interested, comment. :D

Date: 2009-07-06 07:43 pm (UTC)Speaking of realistic goals and setting ourselves up to succeed, I'd love it if you threw a post on fiction_transitions about the 3 word a day goal, and that link! No pressure...if you'd rather not, maybe I could put something up about it at some point? I think a lot of members, particularly the quiet ones, are feeling some measure of guilt about not writing enough o-fic, or not making a black/white immediate switch...it would be great to nudge in the direction of setting realistic goals meant to be met, if not exceeded =D

On the other hand I can totally understand that loads of people do have weight loss as a goal and being realistic and kind to yourself while doing it is really important, I think!
I would be very happy to post a bit about the 3 words a day goal on f_t! Maybe it will spark some discussion, that would be cool.
I am really excited about Scotland. And nervous OMG!

Date: 2009-07-09 06:34 am (UTC)Yeah...my eating habits don't really need much of a tune up other than me being careful not to stress relief snack at night after everyone's gone to bed. What I really need to be disciplined about is getting exercise every day. I need that, not only for the weight loss (that must happen for the sake of my health) but also for my horrendous insomnia. I sleep so much better, and see such an immediate difference, when I'm exercising every day. I just can't commit to that while I'm on vacation. But soon! I'll be home very soon.
How much trouble would it be to make a voice post of random people you bump into on the streets in Scotland? I love those accents. I love all sorts of accents...except maybe my Chicaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahgo one :/
