That is all really useful. And in fact has given me a great starting-point for how Joel might have made his choice of denomination when he was more politically and religiously active in his late teens/early twenties, and some ideas about how what was going on then might have shaped his mindset now...
I think I've probably reached a point with this line of enquiry where I can put a pin in it until I start writing and discover I have to find X out right now before I write another word. That seems to happen a lot with scenes.
