Television!

I've picked up the knitting habit again, which means I'm watching lots of TV. Especially when knitting boring patterns.

So, I'm kind of looking for cool TV shows to watch.

Here's some things:

-I quite like downbeat shows, but right now, I'd like cheery stuff. It's winter and I seem to have overdosed on sad books and TV episodes recently.

-Funny is good. Snarky humour is awesome; lots of slapstick probably won't make me all that happy.

-Sci fi, horror, fantasy, weirdshit, etc, are all pretty awesome. Mundane TV shows about high schoolers with no supernatural/sci fi element, probably not so much. (I'm quite tempted by How I Met Your Mother, even though there's nothing fantastical.)

-Reality shows are RIGHT OUT. I require plot. And scripts.

I'm all caught up on Haven, WH13 and Eureka. Currently watching The Dead Zone (old! But fun). Loved Buffy, Dollhouse and Firefly, have yet to see most of Angel. Was keeping up with both The BIg Bang Theory and Supernatural up until about halfway through last season, but have totally lost my place on both shows. Have had the Sarah Connor Chronicles and.... the one with Joshua Jackson...? Fringe! Sarah Connor Chronicles and Fringe have been recommended.

I would love some recommendations, droll-or-flist!

Did you see the SciFi mini-series Tin Man? The network re-imagined The Wizard of Oz, added a few generations between the original and their show, and cast some really versatile people. (Alan Cumming knocked my socks clean off.) Of course, it's only 3-4 hours of watching, but it's good watching. It's on Netflix instant, and it's pretty.

Seconding both Sarah Connor and Fringe.

In a sci fi/fantasy vein Lost Girl is excellent, as are Vampire Diaries and Sanctuary. I also loved Primeval.

Sunshiny crime wise, I am on an NCIS LA kick lately. Season one of the new Hawaii five-0 was fun but the second season has annoyed me so much I have quit it.

For less campy crime I like Flashpoint, Republic of Doyle is a great show, as was Terriers.

Revenge is a new show that's fun, Covert Affairs is an easy watch. The Good Wife is excellent.

Whatever you are in the mood for, something in there should do you!

I second the recommendation for 'The Good Wife'. My Bun gave us the first season of 'Castle', which was entertaining, not least because it stars Nathan Fillion (aka Firefly's Mal Reynolds). And I very much enjoy 'Lie to me', so catch that one if you can. I have no idea if any of these is on telly at present, as everything we watch except Doctor Who is on DVD. But I too have a lot of knitting to do, and DVDs, particularly of shows I have actually seen before, are very good company.

Off the top of my head, shows that've been watched around here (and loved) recently: Covert Affairs, Once Upon a Time, and Sons of Anarchy. That last one has a trigger list about 80 miles long, so I generally do not rec it despite being head over heels for the first three seasons. (I'm not best pleased with season 4.)

Oh, and Revenge and Lost Girl and Sanctuary.

Have you seen Miranda? Hilarious stuff.

Currently mainlining The Big Bang Theory, so I definitely recommend catching up on that.
