Some things make a post?

Happy New Year, all. I still exist. I am trying to make progress on various things and I have a bunch of goals for 2024, which maybe I will expand on in another post? Maybe soon? Let's hope. I have learned a lot this month about how to hack my own particular executive function and oh boy, it involves a lot of I Do This Thing At This Time.

One of my goals is "be more social" and that includes online. So maybe I'll be using this thing more, trying to participate in interesting communities, and replying to comments? (For some reason comment replies are the absolute bane of my life. I'm so bad at them. This is true on AO3 too. No, I don't know exactly why.)

Anyway, one reason for posting today is to do the 2024 Snowflake Challenge, which I have seen around for years and years but never actually attempted.

Update your fandom information. Post your answer to today’s challenge in your own space and leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

I have updated my list of fandoms.

What else counts as fandom information?

I used to be very active in an RPF fandom, though I haven't written for it in years (it's been dead a while). I ran a blog about Methos on tumblr for a while, which I haven't updated in years. (My relationship with the person who got me into that fandom ended Badly and I have not managed to recover properly. Though I do still own the entire show on DVD.) These days my main fandom/occupation/lifestyle is Final Fantasy XIV. (I'm trying to get my head to interact with other things, but it's an uphill struggle, because it's comforting and times are hard/my brain is terrible.)

I would like to get back into fandom, but finding the right combination of canon and social environment for my brain to work with it is being a little bit tricky.

I suspect fandom goals are coming up later in the month so I won't get into that too much here.

Think that's it for now?

I hope you can find that one (or more) fandoms that grabs you and nets you so many friends.

Comments are hard, man. I still struggle with leaving comments for others, myself. I *have* gotten a bit better with it the past two years but I still spend a lot of time second-guessing myself, and starting a comment only to delete it, walk away, then forget I was commenting and thus never finish posting it. I think talking in Best Bar lately has helped me somewhat, because I am more likely to actually press "Post Comment" now.

I think with Snowflake it's the fact it can be so in your face for nearly the whole month. So, I can understand being intimidated.

Knowing you felt that way makes it even more impressive you're taking part now.

And, happy new year to you, too!

I hear you on the commenting difficulties. For me it's something the olde executive dysfunction REALLY enjoys gnawing to pieces. And I'm with you on the desire to be more social too. Frankly, I'm tempted to offer to hold hands so the whole process is less fraught. [Such is the power of the buddy system.] But that might be Too Much. So instead, let me offer a fistbump of solidarity and the knowledge that you aren't alone in these struggles. <3

Oh! Yes, I'd love to be Bein' Social Buddies with you!
*fistbumps gleefully*
We might need to upgrade that to a secret handshake. ;D
[gosh, I didn't think you'd *agree*. :D :D]

I'm sure that sometimes it will be too much for me, but I am determined to work around/with the brain-spicy issues. Good communication with ones Buddy is key, of course - what does that kind of system look like for you? Setting up a flexible bit of structure now seems wise.

I'm pretty easy-going and not easily offended, just so you know.

Heh, we are quite the collective spice rack. Excellent.

Ooooooo... I feel simultaneously called out and seen. Yeaaaaah. This whole past year has been about my learning that I need to respect my own limits. And those limits often mark fragility. So, thank you for saying that.

Absolutely nothing about that is horrifying. In fact, I think that's really helpful in starting the structure.

To the DMs we go!

Excited here too!! :D :D

Doing a thing at a particular time is so helpful. If I don't take my meds while I'm making my morning tea.....I probably won't take them at all. I believe in you. ♥
