Panic.

The stuff that I wrote last night, I really don't like. At least, not the stuff that I wrote in the small hours of the morning. It's way too sappy and girly and the whole thing is a bit too girly and I'm starting to lose faith in my ability to do this a bit, even though there are lots of bits that I'm really pleased with.

It just doesn't do what I needed it to do, and what I should do is delete the bit I don't like and rewrite it.

Except that that's likely to really hurt (if not kill) my momentum and I can't afford to stop writing.

Eep.

This story is really, really scary.

ETA: OMG, also, I can't get into my email. Fucking Gmail.

If you feel like writing now, write! You can edit it later. :)

You are right.

Also - I think if I had stopped to seriously edit, I would not have started writing again. And well, that would suck, as there's a lot more story to tell and I'm excited to tell it.

That's awesome to hear! Just the right attitude! :)

eep! DON'T GIVE UP! YOU CAN DO IT! *POMPOMS*

writing laaaaaaaaaate into the night is something i'm really familiar with, so the only thing i can add to what [livejournal.com profile] rikes has already said is that late-night writing is really temperamental. the most important thing is to not let that momentum go! give the bits you don't like a couple of days to sit and simmer, and you may find that they weren't as bad as you thought. and even if it is, editing can always wait! i don't believe you're capable of a bad story! <3

[identity profile] catviret.livejournal.com 2008-09-12 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you honey! Late-night writing is indeed temperamental, and I think that if I were to stop writing now, I wouldn't pick it up again and the story really wouldn't get finished.

And - you are wonderful! I'm sure I am capable of bad fic, but I would hopefully notice and not publish it. :P

Continue writing and worry about any editing later! (If you really feel worried about what you've written you could perhaps send that bit to one of your betas but still carry on writing the rest.)

Thank you!

I have people who are reading along as I write (yay Google docs) so if it sucks totally, I'll find out. :D

I have continued to write as I'm sure you can see from the wordcount posts. And more writing is happening tonight!

a) breathe
b) it sounds like you don't like the excecution, rather than it's writing in totally the wrong direction, which means fixing it belongs in *editing* time not writing time. Maybe stick down a few notes at the end of the section [ the phrase (only more butch) would do the trick for me, probably - enough to reassure me that I wasn't going to forget my intentions]
c) write on!

[breathes]

You were (and are!) so very right. I am continuing to write, and the scene is still not quite what I want, but it's not the epically awful scene I thought it was the morning after I wrote it, so.

Thank you!

Darn gmail. I was wondering what happened to you. :(

I agree with them others - keep writing. Once you've got something written, you can edit, but getting the words down to fill the blank pages is *much* harder than doing editing and rewriting. Go you!

[identity profile] catviret.livejournal.com 2008-09-12 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
You are right, too. Keeping the momentum going - especially on a story that's intimidating simply by dint of projected word count - is much more important than being word perfect at this stage.

Plus, I've got a month to edit. Or more, if I finish before the deadline (ahaha, yeah right).
