Resilience and what it means to me.

Resilience!

For me resilience is about
* Being able to take hits and survive
* Having a routine that is flexible enough to deal with some change, but sturdy enough to support me
* Having a safety net to fall back on if things get hard

I think I'm going to use SuperBetter to help me along the way. Useful because the site already uses resilience as a key concept and building up resilience is a part of how it works. They use concepts of mental, emotional, physical and social resilience. I'm going to add financial resilience to the list.

What does this mean to me?

Mental resilience: the ability to deal with setbacks, pursue my goals even when things get difficult, and look after my thoughts so they don't beat me up.

Emotional resilience: the ability to deal with frustration and disappointment, self-soothe, and look after my emotions.

Physical resilience: the ability to be physically fit, in reasonably good health (including managing my long-term conditions), and look after my body.

Social resilience: the ability to maintain good relationships.

Financial resilience: the ability to support myself and have a financial safety-net.

That is a good starting-point, I think. More tomorrow

Huh. That's a really good way of framing things, I think - the ability to adapt and handle change.
