There's a few words here that makes me think of Americans taking a trip around Europe, maybe immediately after college - steps, louvre, font, diploma, seats, salami, rumba. There's also a part of this that makes me think of maybe an absentee father with a drug problem playing a part in this - dad, neglect, stash, yawn, brag, daze, kip (maybe a British father who they run across in Paris?). And then there's perhaps something Weird happening? There are some potentially threatening words - snarl, derange, liquefy(!), unleash, steel. Perhaps our characters run into some terrifying character who's threatening to unleash some mad dogs? Maybe this person is a magician of some kind?

This seems a bit disjointed but possibly interesting. I'll have to think about it more.
